Stud Poker and its variations
Stud Poker, also known as Open Poker, is the fastest gambling card game in the Poker hands family.
Rich and poor play it for cash and for fun, ranging from penny ante to table stakes in thousands. The more sophisticated poker variations allow for more gaming strategy than the standard Stud Poker, which has four betting rounds, usually. In Stud Poker and Holdem Poker, the average rank of the winning hands is lower than in more advanced poker versions since in the Stud, the maximum number of cards anyone is dealt is five. |
Poker card game has a lot of variants, and five card stud poker is the original and one of the basic variants. Generally, in stud poker all hands are dealt with face up and face down cards. The number of players at five-card Stud may range from two to ten. Some experienced poker players prefer a game with eight, nine, or ten players. In the theory such number of players allows more latitude for strategy.
The way we play Stud Poker
In this game, the bet usually starts with the card of the lowest value. However, this game has so many variations and perhaps, you become invited to play the version you absolutely do not know.
In the first round, the players start the game by making calls on the face up cards, and this will follow to second round. Players that "call" are dealt with another face up card, and in this stage each player has four cards in their hand.
A poker player with high cards (lucky guy) still has a draw and is have the right to make call on the final face up card. After the completion of betting, the cards are turned face up, and the player with the best five card hand will be the winner. Congratulations!

Optional betting limits at Stud Poker
There are numerous types of betting limits at Stud Poker that depends on where you play and vary from casino to private tournament. We have selected (for the purpose of this article) the most popular and most commonly used. Whatever the limits, the minimum and the maximum must be specified before the start of the poker game.
Betting Variation I
1. Players do not ante, nor does the dealer edge.
2. A minimum amount and a maximum amount are specified before the start of the game. For example, a penny and two, five cents to 10c, 5c to 25c, 50c to $1, 25c to $2, or any two specified amounts.
A player may bet the minimum, the maximum, or any amount between limits at his turn.

A player may bet the minimum, the maximum, or any amount between limits at his turn.
Betting Variation II
In this betting variation only two different amounts may legally be wagered, no amount between limits. For example, 10c and 20c means a player cannot bet 15c, which would be between limits. Other Stud Poker limits suggestions: 5c and 10c, 25c and 50c, $1 and $2.
You can bet the maximum amount only on the following conditions:
1. If a player holds an open pair or better. 2. On the betting round prior to a player being dealt his fifth or last card, and on the final betting round before the showdown. |

Betting Variation III
Often at Stud Poker, three figures are mentioned in the limits, like 5c, 10c, and 25c, which means, the player is permitted to bet the minimum amount or up to the second (middle) poker amount until the third and fourth betting round or until an open pair shows.
Then, she/he is permitted to bet up to the maximum.
Then, she/he is permitted to bet up to the maximum.
Dealer's Edge (Variation IV)
Before the deal starts, the dealer edges into the pot an amount agreed upon, usually equal to the amount of the minimum limit.
Player's Ante (Variation V)
Each player antes into the pot an amount equal to the minimum bet or a larger amount agreed upon by mutual consent.
The Stud Poker Jackpot
The following additional betting feature may be added to any of the mentioned Stud Poker variations except Variations IV and V.
When the opening better fails to have an active opponent on his first bet, the next deal is called a Jackpot. This is happening when all the players have dropped out.
All the players must ante into the pot an amount equal to the bet made by the lone active player in the previous hand.
After all of the players have anted and a new hand is dealt, the opening better (in Jack Pots high or low card can check on the opening bet or thereafter as governed by the Stud Poker rules) is permitted to bet an amount equal to the total amount anted into the pot.
In other words, if that amount is in excess of the maximum game limit, the new maximum limit for that Jack Pot is the amount anted into the pot before, the opening bet is made. We hope that this explanation above clarify the terms concerning Stud Poker Jackpot. Enjoy!
